Vinted account banned and money stuck in your Balance: what can you do?

If Vinted banned your account, appeal first from the link in the message with the moderation decision. If Vinted upholds the ban, Article 21 of the Digital Services Act allows an independent review: ODS, run by ADR Center (certified by AGCOM, Resolution 501/24/CONS), is free, rules on admissibility within 10 days and decides within 90. The decision is not binding.

How do you appeal a Vinted account ban?

Vinted tells you about a ban through an official moderation decision, sent to your Vinted Inbox or by email. Vinted's Help Centre explains that the appeal starts from the link in that message: you explain why you believe the decision was incorrect and provide any supporting evidence (My account was banned). Vinted separates a temporary ban, which ends on its own and which it lifts earlier only if you show the account was banned by mistake, from a permanent ban, and it lists the usual reasons for each. You can appeal each decision only once, so it is worth preparing the appeal carefully. A locked account is a different situation: Vinted may lock an account at your request or automatically after suspicious activity, to protect it, and you follow Vinted's login steps rather than an appeal. ODS is not part of Vinted: it is not a help desk, it has no access to your account and it cannot lift a ban. It comes in after your appeal to Vinted.

What happens to the money in your Vinted Balance when your account is banned?

With a banned Vinted account, the most urgent question is often the money. Vinted's Help Centre says that if you are permanently banned you can still access your account for some actions, including withdrawing earnings from your Vinted Balance: log in, you are directed to your Inbox, then go to your Vinted Balance under your profile. It adds that withdrawals may not be possible if they pose a risk to other members, involve a compromised account, or if the ban is due to a risk of fraud, as determined by Vinted's payment service provider. Vinted may also ask for an ID document, and without it withdrawals can be limited (Why you may be asked for your ID). ODS reviews Vinted's moderation decision on the account, that is, the ban itself. It does not handle payments, it cannot release a Balance and it does not rule on the payment provider's checks. In a review you can still describe how the ban affected your money.

What if Vinted keeps your account banned after the appeal?

If the appeal changes nothing and your Vinted account stays banned, EU law gives you one more route. Article 21 of Regulation (EU) 2022/2065, the Digital Services Act, lets anyone affected by a decision on their account choose a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body to review it. Vinted says so in its Help Centre: besides the internal appeal, you can submit a dispute to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body, and it links to the European Commission's list of bodies (Appeal a moderation decision). The same applies if you reported another member and disagree with Vinted's decision on your report. You file the dispute on the chosen body's own website. ODS is run by ADR Center, a body certified by AGCOM, Italy's Digital Services Coordinator, under Resolution 501/24/CONS, and it handles cases in 16 languages, English included. Keep the message with the decision and the reply to your appeal: they are the core of your file.

Is an ODS review of a Vinted ban free, and is the decision binding?

An ODS review of a banned Vinted account is free, and the form asks for no payment. Article 21 of the Digital Services Act requires the procedure to be free of charge for users, or available at a nominal fee, and charges the body's fees to the platform, here Vinted; if the decision goes Vinted's way, you reimburse nothing unless the body finds manifest bad faith. Once your file is complete, ODS decides within 10 days whether the case is admissible and within 90 days on the merits, with an extension possible for highly complex disputes. Independent experts decide, and AGCOM certification requires the body to be impartial towards both Vinted and its members. The decision is not binding: the Act says a certified body "shall not have the power to impose a binding settlement of the dispute on the parties", and nobody can promise in advance how a case will end. Both sides take part in good faith, and Article 21 keeps your right to challenge Vinted's decision before a court at any stage.

What do you need to open a case about a banned Vinted account?

Before opening a case about a banned Vinted account, you need to have appealed to Vinted first, because ODS steps in after the platform's internal complaint. The ODS form then asks for the platform and the reason, your country of residence in the EU, a description of what happened, the date you appealed to Vinted and the reply you got, the reference code if Vinted gave you one, and your account details: username, the email you use on Vinted and the link to your profile. You can attach screenshots of the message with the moderation decision, Vinted's emails and, if money is stuck, the Vinted Balance screen. If you had orders in progress, mention them in the description. You also give your contact details and the language you want to hear from us in. Finally, you confirm that the information is true and that no other dispute settlement body is already handling the same decision. After you submit, we email you a link to confirm the request.
